Natural Sand Committee
Introduction
In the past, river sand that widely used in construction projects in Hong Kong was imported from the Mainland. However, since 2007 export quotas on river sand have been imposed based on the reasons of abrupt destructions on riverbed and embankment leading to soil erosion, flooding, environmental infrastructure damages, etc.
To convey collective views to relevant government departments as a single unified voice of the industry, stakeholders established Hong Kong River Sand Association in 2007.
In 2015, former key members of Hong Kong River Sand Association joined the River Sand Committee of Hong Kong Construction Materials Association.
